TRICKS FOR EMBELLISHING YOUR HANDS

Hello! I’m writing this post as an answer to a topic I have struggled with, making the hands part of my dance. I want to tell you about how I managed to improve them and my tricks for embellishing your hands.

In this regard, Indian dances are ahead of us, THEY USE THE HANDS PROFUSELY AND THE VOCABULARY IS EVEN CODIFIED : THE MUDRAS.

Starting from this point, I have learned how to make my hands a basic part of the dance, whether I want them to be at the forefront or secondary but active and with energy, as an adornment or accompanying my movements.

That is why I want to give you three tricks about how to embellish your hands. These are very personal and can be practiced anywhere.

TRICKS FOR EMBELLISHING YOUR HANDS:

1º Be aware of your wrist: Paint with your wrist as it were a paintbrush.

Make the movement START FROM YOUR WRIST and guide the rest of your hand. Make it guide even your arm. Relax the fingers and try to feel that the air is thick with every movement… don’t forget that the wrist can move in many directions! Not just up and down 😉

2º The Catapult and Pataka Mudra: Patakapult!

First, put all your fingers together (do not leave space among them please), this is Pataka Mudra. From that point, push your fingers downwards with a strong thrust, and finally go back to the starting point making a wave with your fingers… repeat and try different speeds!

3º We put together another two Mudras: Alapadma and Mushti.

This exercise is about the ability of moving your fingers separately, smoothly and consciously using two mudras. Start the movement from your wrist face up (with you fist closed, Mushti Mudra). Open your fingers one by one, imitating a blooming flower, and when you reach the little finger, (start with the index finger) close your hand again to Mushti Mudra, switch your wrist from face up to face down (with a half turn, do not make a full turn). Raise the speed and change the dynamics!
